Canes Hammer Blades 7-2 in Saskatoon

Carter Folk scored three times and Zane Jones added a pair as the Lethbridge Hurricanes hammered the Blades 7-2 in Saskatoon Friday night.

The Canes got off to a a great start with three goals in the opening period. Zane Jones scored his first of two on the night very early in the first period, scoring at the 1:51 mark to give the visitors a quick 1-0 lead. That was his 5th goal of the season. Saskatoon tied the game up later in the period when Cameron Hebig beat Stuart Skinner to make a 1-1 game. That was a shorthanded goal as well. But Lethbridge got that one back on the same power play, this time Carter Folk would light the red lamp for his first of three on the night and his 2nd of the season to give the Canes a 2-1 lead at the 15:30 mark. Then with just 1:07 to go in the period, Jones would score again for the Hurricanes, his 6th of the year to make it 3-1 Lethbridge after 20 minutes of play.

In the second, Jamal Watson got in on the scoring a the 52 second mark with his 4th of the year. That increased the Canes lead to 4-1. Saskatoon cut the Canes lead in half late in the period, when former Hurricane Sam McKechine scored to make it a 4-2 game after two periods.

In the third, the Hurricanes would put this one to bed with three more goals. Carter Folk scored twice in a span of just over one minute for his 3rd and 4th goals on the year. His hatrick goal was a shorthanded marker as well and gave the Canes a 6-2 lead. Before it was said and done, the Hurricanes added one more when Kade Jensen notched his first of the season on a power play with just over a minute to go in the game. The Canes would win and win big, 7-2.

It was the first time the Hurricanes won back-to-back games since January 29th and 31st, 2014. The victory improves their overall record to 3-8-0-1 on the season. It was by far the Canes most complete game this season. Saskatoon out shot the Hurricanes 35-29, but once again Stuart Skinner was solid between the pipes. The Canes went 2/6 on the power play and scored one shorthanded goal, while the penalty killers were perfect as the Blades went 0/7 on the man advantage. It's clear the acquisition of Zane Jones early this season was a big move by the Canes. He's made his presence known almost from day one.

The Hurricanes will try and make it three straight wins Saturday (Oct. 25) when they play the Raiders in Prince Albert.

Thanks,
Pat
