CJOC & Hurricanes Announce End of Broadcast Agreement

The Lethbridge Hurricanes and long-time broadcast partner 94.1 CJOC (Clear Sky Radio) have announced an end to their partnership.

94.1 CJOC has been the exclusive broadcaster of all Lethbridge Hurricanes hockey games for the past seven years and with their contractual agreement coming to an end on May 31st, 2014, that partnership will not be moving forward in 2014-2015.

“After lengthy deliberations, we made a difficult business decision not to bid for the future broadcast rights; however we have no intention of cutting any ties with the Lethbridge Hurricanes” stated Clear Sky President Paul Larsen. He added “Our company is at a critical crossroads in our growth and we felt the time was right for all parties to consider fresh options with regards to the broadcast rights. It is our intention to maintain strong coverage of Hurricanes hockey in our regular programming and begin a new relationship with the organization even though we will no longer be broadcasting the games.”

Lethbridge Hurricanes Business Manager Terry Huisman is disappointed the partnership is not moving forward. “This has been a successful relationship from day one and we can’t thank CJOC enough for all the work they have done. 72 games each and every season from the beginning and while this year in particular was a tough one, they’ve always maintained a professional manner in broadcasting all our games.”

Huisman says they’re now in the process of sending out a request for proposal to the other radio stations in Lethbridge and are hoping to make a decision on a new broadcast agreement in the not too distant future. “I’d like to extend my sincere gratitude to Paul Larsen, play-by-play voice Pat Siedlecki, Fred Jack and all those behind the scenes at CJOC who contributed to the broadcast each night. Home and away, they brought our game to our fans and I can’t thank them enough.”

  1. I for one will miss the play by play which Pat has done very well. I hope that said, that they keep up the Monday night show going as I am sure this had a huge following. I don't care who the Hurricanes get to broadcast next year, it will be a huge step backwards. At a time where a little stability is needed, it is a shame there will be a couple of rookies at the mike. It will not be the same. Will the last one out please turn out the lights? Thank you.

  2. While this wasn't unexpected seeing it formally announced is so very disappointing. The mrs. and I watch every away game online but mute the sound and turning on Pat. We also listen to every pregame show as we drive to the home games and catch the weekly radio show whenever possible. To say Pat is one of the best in the WHL is not overstating his abilities. While someone new will eventually be accepted, it will take time for a new PBP guy to meet the standards set by Pat.

We wish you continued success in your broadcasting career, Pat. Thank you for always giving it to us straight (or as straight as you were allowed to) and for giving us this forum to cheer, vent, whine, complain, bitch and brag.

  3. Pat, I think I speak on behalf of ALL Hurricanes fans when I say we can't thank you enough for all the hard work you put in covering the Canes over the past few years. From the WHL Final run in 07-08, to the season that shall not be mentioned last year, you covered everything with true professionalism. Hurricanes broadcasts won't be the same without you.
Thank you Pat, and the best of luck for the future.

  4. This sucks Pat. We will miss YOU and FREDDIE a lot. Your extra efforts were very much appreciated and we really enjoyed listening to your play by plays for the last 7 years.

  5. Let me be one of the first to say that this announcement is very disappointing from a fan and listener's point of view. Pat has been a consummate professional over the course of the last 7 seasons of which the last 5 have been very trying. Having had the opportunity to work along side of Pat in his first season and on occasions during the past 6 years, I have developed the utmost respect for Pat and his hard work behind the microphone. Best wishes with your new position with Clear Sky.
    Still time for Tim's!
    Regards,
    Dick Gibson
