The Lethbridge Hurricanes are excited to announce five of their 2014 WHL Bantam Draft picks have been invited to Team Alberta’s U16 Summer Development Camp being held in Camrose from July 15th – 20th.
Hockey Alberta made the announcement earlier today and among the top 80 male U16 players selected to compete are Forwards Zane Franklin, Jadon Joseph and Tyler Traptow along withDefencemen Koletrane Wilson and Ayden Roche-Setoguchi.
“We’re really excited about this group of athletes,” said General Manager of Team Alberta, Tim Leer. “These players are competing for a chance to represent Alberta in a national event, so the staff expects them to work and play hard all week in Camrose.”
The selection process started at the 2014 ATB Alberta Cup in Strathmore in April where the players were evaluated by Team Alberta staff. From the Provincial Camp, a selected group of players will be shortlisted and scouted with their club teams until Team Alberta names its 20 players that will make up the roster. The team will compete at the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George, BC, February 13 - March 1, 2015.
The U16 Male Summer Development Camp is the final stage in the first year of the Team Alberta Program. Selected players then advance to the Canada Winter Games and then potentially move on to Hockey Canada’s U17 National Program.
Former Team Alberta players include Jordan Eberle, Jay Bouwmeester, Devan Dubnyk, Devin Setoguchi, Braden Holtby, Tyler Myers and Scott Hartnell.
This announcement is exciting news for the Lethbridge Hurricanes organization. Earlier this month, prospects Jordy Bellerive, Nick Watson and Shane Farkas were among 44 players invited to BC’s U16 Provincial Camp which is being held in Nanaimo, BC from July 8th – 13th.
