Duke & Cooper in Final CSS Ranking

NHL Central Scouting released their Final Draft rankings Tuesday morning and a pair of Lethbridge Hurricanes are on the list ahead of the June draft.

Reid Duke has been on the radar all season long, first on the “watch list” and then ranked in the top 100 North American Skaters at the mid-term rankings in January. Duke winds up ranked 137th among North American Skaters heading into the draft. The 18-year old native of Calgary put up solid numbers with 15G, 25A for 40 points in 62 games which was good for 3rd in team scoring.

Taylor Cooper is ranked 160th among North American Skaters. The 18-year old from Sherwood Park appeared for the first time at the mid-term rankings where he was listed 148th. At that time, Cooper had just played a couple of months after coming to the Hurricanes as part of the Ryan Pilon trade. At the mid-term rankings Cooper had 8 points in 18 games with the Hurricanes. He finished the season with 24 points (12G, 12A) which was tied for 6th in team scoring.

Hurricanes listed player Chase Phelps is 163rd among North American Skaters. Phelps finished the year with 51 points in 39 games for Shattuck-St. Mary’s. He also played for Team USA at the U-18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial tournament last August where the Americans claimed the Silver medal.

The 2014 NHL Entry Draft will be held June 27-28th at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The complete final rankings list can be found at www.nhl.co.

  1. I guess all we can do is wonder where Duke may have been drafted if he played for say the Hitmen. I will just venture a guess that he would have at least cracked the top 60, instead of an obscure and insignificant #137.

IF, and this is a huge IF, this team returns next year with it's current management structure, no way in h@ll would I let my kid come here to play for the Canes. No way, no how!
