Moose Jaw Warriors Beat Hurricanes 4-2

LETHBRIDGE - Ben Duperreault broke a 2-2 tie in the second period as the Moose Jaw Warriors beat the Lethbridge Hurricanes 4-2 Friday night at the ENMAX Centre.

The visitors got off to a very energetic start in this game. The Canes didn't generate much offence with just two shots in first 13 minutes. Moose Jaw opened the scoring when Bryson Gore stole the puck and moved down the right side, hammering a shot off Teagan Sacher and in, to make it 1-0 Warriors. The Hurricanes got that one back with a great goal by Reid Duke. An end-to-end rush on the power play by Duke and he scored a highlight reel goal, his 13th of the season to even the game at 1-1. The Warriors had a lengthy 5-on-3 power play in the late stages of the period, the Canes managed to kill that off to keep the game tied through 20 minutes of play. The shots on goal favoured Moose Jaw 16-7. Despite only 7 shots, the Canes had some great scoring chances.

In the second, the Warriors took the lead just 15 seconds into the period when Jack Rodewald beat Sacher to give the visitors a 2-1 lead. That didn't last long. Just 30 seconds after that goal, the Hurricanes came right back down the ice and Riley Sheen potted his 16th goal of the season to even the score again, this time 2-2. The Warriors, for a third time in the game though would end up regaining a one goal lead. Ben Duperreault found the back of the goal to give Moose Jaw a 3-2 lead. That's the way the period ended. The Warriors held a 24-17 edge in shots on goal.

In the third, the Hurricanes would do everything to try and find the equalizer, but Zach Sawchenko did a great job in the Moose Jaw goal to keep the Canes off the score board. Lethbridge pulled the goaltender with a minute to go, but the Warriors iced the game with an empty net goal from Torrin White and Moose Jaw would win the game 4-2. The Warriors out shot Lethbridge 34-29 in this game. The Hurricanes penalty kill was solid. The Warriors finished the game 0/5 on the power play and the Canes 1/5. The loss drops the Hurricanes record to 12-42-2-3 in 59 games this season. The Canes are down to their final 13 games.

Next Up

The Hurricanes next action is Saturday (Feb. 15) when they play host to the visiting Calgary Hitmen. This will be the 5th of 6 meetings this season between the two Central Division clubs. Calgary has won all four meetings so far. Game time is 7:00 pm MST. The pre-game show on CJOC at 6:30.
