Canes Deal (G) Corbin Boes to Portland

The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced Thursday they have traded overage goalie Corbin Boes to the Portland Winterhawks for Steven Alldridge, the rights to Shane McColgan and second round pick in 2014.

Lethbridge Hurricanes General Manager Brad Robson says the addition of Alldridge will be a great asset to our team. “He’s a big strong kid and a young player who will fit in with the young group of players we have. He plays a physical game and will help our club for the next 3 or 4 years.” Robson added “McColgan has lots of experience in the league having been on Memorial Cup teams. We’ve obtained his rights and will see the direction he’s leaning in his hockey career after talking to him today.”

McColgan, a 5’9, 170 lb. Centre from Manhattan Beach, CA began his career with the Kelowna Rockets before moving on to the Saskatoon Blades and then Portland. In 291 career WHL games he has 271 points, including 84 goals; he’s a minus-27 plus/minus rating as well as 264 PIM’s. Alldridge, a 6’3, 200 lb. left winger is in his rookie campaign in the Western Hockey League and has played 24 games with the Winterhawks with 54 PIM’s and a minus-4 rating.

The Lethbridge Hurricanes acquired Boes at the 2013 Bantam Draft when they made a trade with Brandon to select him 6th overall. “He’s been a big addition to our club and his leadership and character have helped us immensely in the first half of the season. He’s a character guy and his strong work ethic on and off the ice has gone a long way to show our young guys how to play and succeed in this league” commented Robson.

Boes played 35 with the Hurricanes with a 4.11 goals against average, .900 save percentage and a record of 5-24-2-2. The Lethbridge Hurricanes thank Corbin Boes for all his work and wish him the best in Portland.

  2. To bad our GM didn't get one of the Portland goalies in return, if Sacher isn't game ready for the next two games, expect a couple of back to back blow outs and a shell shocked Hogue! Don't know much about Aldridge? 20 some games played, no pts? McColgan seems to be disgruntled, would be surprised if he reports and even if he does, is that the type of character needed in such a young room? 2nd round pick is a second round pick....hope the GM isn't done yet or the back half of this season isn't looking very good???

    2. This was a good trade. One player and a draft pick for Boes a good return. If McColgan shows up he could benefit the team.

I do not think BR is done yet though. Possibly another show to drop.

Boes can say hi to Axel in Victoria on Friday.

  3. Its a decent return considering how hard it is to move 20 year old goalies. IMO trading down and not taking Clague was a monumental error. Considering the number of veteran calibre goalies could have been had for a lower round draft pick. At least this allows him some possible return in the 2nd round pick. Aldridge not having any points on an offensive powerhouse team is worth noting. Overall it was decent recovery.

    1. From portland here...great trade alldridge is a great young player. Not a lot of ice time even with players at the wjc but will do the young canes well. And our starter burke was hurt a couple games ago...
Good luck in the future lethbridge!

  4. This is a trade to mask the major screw up , Which was acquiring boes in the first place. Remeber the Canes are rebuilding so lets trade away a first round 6th overall pick for a average 20yr goalie. I'm happy for corbin and Russ to get the heck out of here. There is no future. If I was a player in this organization I would want to leave too!

  5. The couple games I've seen him, Alldridge plays similar to Folk so we Canes fans are going to soon have one of the hardest hitting lines in the WHL... good consolation for the season!!
