Hurricanes Recall (G) Jonny Hogue From AJHL

Lethbridge Hurricanes General Manager, Brad Robson announced Monday Goalie Jonny Hogue has been recalled for the team’s Saskatchewan road trip.

Hurricanes back-up goalie, Teagan Sacher was injured in the first 5 minutes of Saturday’s game at Medicine Hat when he was hit and suffered an upper body injury that is expected to sideline him for a couple of weeks.

Hogue started in the Hurricanes home and season opener on September 20th before being reassigned to the Drumheller Dragons of the AJHL in mid-October. The 17-year old native of Lethbridge has played 9 games for the Dragons posting a 5-3 record with a goals against average of 3.18 and a .877 save percentage.

Hogue will back-up Corbin Boes as the Hurricanes embark on a Saskatchewan road trip that will see them play 3 games in 4 nights starting New Year’s Day in Regina. The Hurricanes will play in Prince Albert on Friday and close out the East Division road swing Saturday night in Saskatoon.

The Hurricanes will return home to host the Kootenay Ice on Wednesday, January 8th at 7:00pm. Tickets for all Hurricanes home games are available through the ENMAX Ticket Centre at (403) 329-7328 or online at www.enmaxcentre.ca.

  1. Uh ohhhh.

What a costly night in the Hat of nightmares!

Started with Penner pushing Hackman 5 yards into Sacher. Nice to at least see the two game suspension on Penner. Clouston looked ridiculous as he complained about the 5 minute major call. He looked even more ridiculous later the same game when he was whining to the official obviously claiming that Bell's hit was worthy of a major. Masterful manipulator of officials. Bell's elbows were down, the player had just received the puck, Bell did not jump into the player, he simply skated right through the player's chest. It was a textbook hockey hit on a player that was looking down at the puck instead of where he was going. Comparing it to other similar hits this year, many of these type hits don't get penalized.

Wong was hit into the boards from behind twice in that game without calls from the clueless refs; once by Stanton, once by Allan. Both players looked at the ref immediately after their hits - I think neither Tiger could believe no arm was up, and I couldn't believe Wong got up from either hit so fast. I would not be surprized if he is concussed.

Derko looked like he took a stride and slipped on a broken stick behind the net. I watched it a few times but still could not tell if that is what caused the injury.

    More trades coming....

  2. Hopefully the players can give Jonny some defensive support if/when he sees any game action... great local kid!!

When will the WHL step in and deal with the Tigers continuing to injure the Canes... every season we end up seeing a Tiger player injure a Cane player and get off lightly... I know the League doesnt want to see vigilante justice so why don't they do their job and make a fair call?!
Only two games for Penner for giving our goalie (what sounds like) a concussion... that could be 5-10 games on the sidelines for Sacher...
Doty better teach Penner how to fight before January 14th...

  3. So much for all of the blustering that WHL was going to protect goalies and players from concussions. Two games is a joke!
