TRADE: Hurricanes Deal Henry to Seattle for Foulk

The Lethbridge Hurricanes announced before Wednesday’s game with the Kootenay Ice they have traded 18 year old Defenceman Adam Henry to the Seattle Thunderbirds in exchange for Defenceman Griffin Foulk.

Henry, who is from Winnipeg, Manitoba was the Hurricanes 3rd round (55th overall) pick in the 2009 Bantam Draft. In 109 career WHL games with the Hurricanes he registered 37 points (9G, 28A), a -13 plus/minus rating and 93 PIM’s.

Last season, Henry was also on Central Scouting’s preliminary watch list, but missed the first half of the season while recovering from a heart condition. He finished the year, ranked 165th among North American skaters but did not get drafted this past June. He did attend the Chicago Blackhawks Prospect Camp (before the draft) and their Rookie Camp in September.

Lethbridge Hurricanes General Manager Brad Robson says “Adam has been an exceptional player, teammate and leader while with the Hockey Club.” He added “while Adam worked hard both on and off the ice, he was also extremely dedicated to being involved in the community through school and hospital visits, hockey clinics and numerous other initiatives in and around Lethbridge.”

In eight games this season, the 6’1, 196 pound Foulk has 3 assists and he’s a plus-3 plus/minus rating. Last season, the 18-year old from Broomfield, CO played in 46 games for the T-Birds, scoring a pair of goals and adding two assists. He finished the 2012-2013 season with 41 penalty minutes and played in all 7 playoff games against Kelowna.

  1. Adam Henry is a quality young man who had to overcome a lot of adversity last year and I am sure he will do well in Seattle and in the future! Looks like Canes get someone who will take care of business in the D zone. Sounds like a good trade for both teams ....LthHnds

  2. For this team to accomplish anything they will have to play to their strengths, supposedly Corbin Boes. They gave up the rights to Kale Clague who will be an all-star in this league. It is a deal I would have never done. Boes could have been had much cheaper. You build from the net out and Boes will only be around one season. You have to add a couple of veteran d-men and stiffen up the defence. Foulk is only 18 yrs and most 18 yr olds are not team leaders. Play strong defence and have your goalie make big saves will result in more wins. After all Red deer has been doing that successfully for many years. They say imitation is the highest from of flattery.

  3. Shot across the bow?? Buy in or be prepared to ship out?? Looks to me that is the message being sent. From Foulks numbers he is not an upgrade from Henry so I can only assume he wasn't working for this staff. Time will tell I guess I there are more moves. Good luck to Adam.

  4. They did not give up the rights to Clague. They traded down 11 spots, before the start of the draft, to acquire Boes. That's getting two players (and Skinner looked pretty darn good, too) for one pick. Now, I am not saying it was a good deal, but it's silly to exclude Skinner from any discussion of this trade. Btw, if Red Deer has been doing that successfully for many years, how did they get Dumba and Nugent-Hopkins?
