Henry & Blomqvist to NHL Rookie Camps

The Hurricanes announced Friday that both Adam Henry and Axel Blomqvist have been invited to NHL Rookie Training camps in September.

After attending the Blackhawk’s prospects camp prior to the NHL draft in June, Adam Henry was invited to attend to participate in their rookie camp and tournament. The tournament will take place in London, Ont. and will see the Blackhawks rookie squad face-off against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Pittsburgh Penguins and Ottawa Senators rookies. The tournament will run from September 5th- 8th.After missing the whole first half of last season recovering from a heart condition, the dynamic defenceman tallied 14 points (5G, 9A) in 32 games during his second season with the ‘Canes.

Axel Blomqvist, a 6’2 power forward from Osby, Sweden posted 33 points (7G, 26A) in 59 games during his rookie season with the Hurricanes. After signing an Amateur Tryout Contract (ATO) with the Winnipeg Jets in the offseason, he was invited to their rookie camp. Blomqvist will be attending their camp and tournament following the Lethbridge Hurricanes training camp at the end of August. The Jets rookie camp runs from September 4-9, including a tournament in Penticton, B.C.

Blomqvist and Henry are the two latest getting a chance to showcase their talents at the next level. Both Macoy Erkamps (Ottawa Senators) and Jaimen Yakubowski (Detroit Red Wings) also attended NHL development camps earlier this summer.

  2. Yes, Axel is at least 6'5" but the part of that info I have to chuckle at is Axel being a power forward. Me thinks he needs a lot more power in his game before he can have that moniker!
