Brad Lukowich Named Hurricanes Assistant Coach

Brad Lukowich
The Lethbridge Hurricanes announced at a media conference Monday the hiring of former NHL’er Brad Lukowich as their new Assistant Coach. The addition of Lukowich to the Coaching staff comes just two weeks after the team introduced Drake Berehowsky as their new Head Coach.

Lukowich brings 15 years of experience as a hockey player and leader on the ice to the Hurricanes organization and his goal is to help develop and improve each player in their hockey goals. Throughout his career, the defenseman has won at every level – a two-time Stanley Cup Champion (Dallas Stars - 1999, Tampa Bay Lightning – 2004, President’s Trophy Winner – 2009 San Jose Sharks) and he was a two time Memorial Cup Champion with the Kamloops Blazers (1994, 1995.) In 658 career NHL games (with 6 NHL teams) Lukowich registered 113 points (23G, 90A) to go along with 369 PIM’s. He also played 71 NHL playoff games with 6 points and 22 PIM’s.

“He knows what it takes to win at the highest level, and he’s also returned to Dallas and worked as a Player-Coach with Jordie Benn, Brenden Dillon and Philip Larsen.” commented Lethbridge Hurricanes General Manager, Brad Robson who said that experience is a huge asset to the team.

  1. I really like this hire. Could end up being a W head coach. Will be a great d-mentor for our young talented group. Long run.

  2. Nice to see the coaching staff taking shape. Waiting to hear the next one hired! With Luckowich we could see some of our D men really develop.

  3. Robson said it would be a forward as an assistant coach next......How about Kevin St.Jacques. He is coaching young players in the south (USA). He certainly put up the numbers when he played here and was solid on the power play.

    Just a pipe dream.

  4. I like this hire as well, tons of defensive knowledge for the kids to learn from, looks like a good group of coaches so far.

  5. Good man to hire! Lukowich had a SOLID playing career (and recent) which will VERY MUCH help the Canes young d-core!! Excellent addition!
