Hurricanes Unveil New Dressing Room Signage

The Lethbridge Hurricanes proudly unveiled new signage inside and outside their dressing room Thursday that pays tribute to Hurricanes Captains, WHL/CHL award winners, NHL drafted Hurricanes and players who have taken part in the World Juniors, Olympics and Stanley Cup Champions.

The idea came about during last season when the Hurricanes had a game in Moose Jaw and the Coaching staff was given a tour of their new dressing room. Dick Gibson, Chairman Alumni/Hall of Fame Committee also toured Moose Jaw’s facility and thought this would be a great way to honor the Hurricanes and their accomplishments as well as maintain a historical connection to the players who have played for the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Gibson stated that “it is important that the current players and future players of this franchise are made aware of the history of accomplishments of those who have preceded them. Hopefully this will encourage them to reach for their goals as a player and team member of the Lethbridge Hurricanes.”

A panel honoring the 1997 WHL Champions will be installed at a later date. The panels will be updated each year as more names are added.

Proceeds from the 2012 Lethbridge Hurricanes/Bronco Alumni golf tournament were earmarked for this project.

  1. EXCELLENT IDEA!! I've always thought there needs to be more tradition honoured in the Enmax and this is a great way to start honouring our former players who have played their hearts out for this franchise. A few pics of some of these players wouldn't hurt either!

  2. Great way to start? Where have you been? Ceremony to bring back the WHL banners of the Broncos, 4 Alumni Hall of Fame ceremonies, Steve Fallwell Media Centre dedication! Guess they do not qualify as honoring the past players and builders. Now that the most recent project (8 months in the making) is done that certain board member should get right on those pictures!

    Some people are never satisfied!

  3. RJ.....you need a lesson in reading my posts. Let me point out something you seem to have missed in my first post.

I think it says (let me just check, oh ya), MORE tradition. I didn't say anything about not having ANY tradition. It states "MORE" tradition. If you feel like you need to correct me at every pass, I'll do the same to you. You already made fool of yourself by trying to correct me the last time regarding the Board of Directors names not being on the Canes' website. And make no mistake, THE OLD NAMES WERE ON THE LIST UNTIL I ASKED WHO THE NEW MEMBERS WERE. (My friend Dick Gibson can attest to that because he was the one who sent me the new names and changed the old list).

You're never satisfied RJ?? That's unfortunate. That means you're always going to be correcting people (even when they're right!)

  4. A very nice improvement over the previous acknowledgments to past Hurricane accomplishments at the dressing room level.

Darren your post regarding the board members states "I had to send an email to the board of directors to find the names of the members of the board. It was answered by the communications volunteer dick Gibson who is a member of the board. Not sure if they have added the board members' names to the website now or not?" A comment that makes no mention of old names and implies that there were no names. Your point about "more" on the other hand is 100% spot on.

  5. Please check what you wrote. You said "and this is a great way START honouring our former players" Which could lead a person to believe that there had been nothing done previously.

That was the point I was attempting to make. In defense of the person who has done so much to establish, maintain and build those players who have contributed to the history of accomplishment of the Hurricanes and the Broncos.

  6. @RJ - I read Darren's comment the same way as you did. So you're not the only one.
