WHL Pre-Season: Hurricanes Beat Red Deer 1-0

The Lethbridge Hurricanes beat the Red Deer Rebels 1-0 Saturday night in WHL pre-season action in Innisfail.

Russ Maxwell broke the scoreless tie with a power play goal to give Lethbridge the lead and eventually the victory. Ty Rimmer played the entire game and recorded the shutout.

Lethbridge out shot the Rebels 38-27.

The Canes even their exhibition record to 1-1 following a 6-1 loss earlier this week to Calgary.  The Hurricanes next pre-season game is set for Sunday night (Sept. 9) in Medicine Hat against the Tigers.  The two rivals will play in Lethbridge on Wednesday (Sept. 12) at the ENMAX Centre.

The Canes started Ty Rimmer in goal, his first action of either training camp or pre-season.  Also in the starting line-up tonight for Lethbridge included Dan Johnston, Lenny Hackman, Russ Maxwell, Craig Leverton, and Axel Blomqvist. 

The Hurricanes scratches for this game included Tanner Kovacs, Connor Sutton, Spencer Galbraith, Albin Blomqvist, Brady Ramsay, Jamal Watson, Jaimen Yakubowski, Jay Merkley, and Graham Hood.

  1. Completely different discipline in this one, by the Canes; great to see. NO cane penalties in the third after scoring in the first minute while ON a powerplay. Nice job players and coaches!
