Hurricanes Select Plotnikoff & Conrad 28th & 53rd Overall

The Lethbridge Hurricanes have selected Centre Cole Plotnikoff from Surrey, BC with their only pick in the second round of the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft.

Plotnikoff was taken 28th overall.

Earlier today, the Hurricanes took Giorgio Estephan with the 4th overall selection. Estephan had 100 points in 32 games, including 43 goals and 57 assists with the Edmonton Southside Athletic Club this past year.

The  Hurricanes made their second, first-round selection in the Draft. With the 18th pick overall, acquired from Moose Jaw in the Cam Braes trade, the Canes selected defenceman Thomas Lenchyshyn.

Lethbridge did not have a 3rd round selection this year, so they made trade to acquire the 53rd overall pick in the third round and chose forward Colt Conrad from Manitoba.

Thanks,
Pat

  1. I love the first two picks. Take an AB boy as to not get shafted as Swift did by an elite BC player going the NCAA route. All are risks, I just trust prairie kids to go the whl route. Rimmer is likely the best trade for a specific player in Rich’s tenure. I don’t think a 2nd and 3rd was too much given our lack of playoffs in the last 3 seasons. We should be-able to gain some mid round picks back for a couple of our current 20’s.
My biggest concern is why didn’t we take a goalie with our 2nd this year? It was time we take one high and develop him. A goalie went the pick after ours. I don’t get it. Does someone know if we have a good young tender in the system?

  2. The Hurricanes have Jonny Hogue in the system, arguably the best goalie in the Hurricanes training camp last year. He should be the future in net for this team.
