Hurricanes Select Josh Hayward in 7th Round of Draft

The Lethbridge Hurricanes have taken another forward in the Western Hockey League draft.

In the 7th round, 138th overall, the Canes picked forward Josh Hayward from the South Side Edmonton Athletic Club.

Before that, Lethbridge selected a goaltender late in the 6th round, picking Eric Szudor from Edmonton with the 121st selection overall. He's 6' 2", 175 pounds.

The Hurricanes also picked defenceman Brandon Kennedy from Tsawwassen, BC with their first 6th round pick, 113th overall.

The Canes took defenceman Kade Jensen in the 5th round, 103rd overall before that.  Jensen is from Calgary and played with the Calgary Broncos Bantam AAA team.

Prior to that, the Canes picked Centre Zachary Goberis in the 4th round of the WHL Bantam draft, 87th overall.

Back in Round 2, the Canes picked up Centre Cole Plotnikoff from Surrey, BC with their only selection in that round. Plotnikoff was taken 28th overall. Lethbridge did not have a 3rd round selection this year, so they made trade to acquire the 53rd overall pick in the third round and chose forward Colt Conrad from Manitoba.

Earlier today, the Hurricanes took Giorgio Estephan with the 4th overall selection. Estephan had 100 points in 32 games, including 43 goals and 57 assists with the Edmonton Southside Athletic Club this past year.

The Hurricanes made their second, first-round selection in the Draft. With the 18th pick overall, acquired from Moose Jaw in the Cam Braes trade, the Canes selected defenceman Thomas Lenchyshyn.
