Hurricanes This Week

Well, it's certainly nice to be back in southern Alberta!

After a long 10 day road trip to BC which ended up being a bit a bit longer because of bad weather on the way back on Friday night, the Hurricanes will settle back into the ENMAX Centre for 3 games in 4 nights this week.

The Hurricanes went 2-3 on this latest trip to BC, with back-to-back losses in Prince George, a win in Vancouver, loss in Kamloops, and a victory in Kelowna. The Canes felt they should've been able to come back with at least three wins, as they look back to those two games in PG as ones that got away.

Lethbridge sits with 37 points after 49 games. They still have a good shot at catching Swift Current and Red Deer in the Eastern Conference standings, trailing those two teams by 4 points and 8 points respectively. The Hurricanes are still 11 points out of the last playoff position.

Coming up this week, the Hurricanes will host Kootenay on Wednesday, Medicine Hat is in town Friday, and on Saturday the Prince Albert Raiders make their first of two visits to Lethbridge. These three games will close out the January portion of the Hurricanes schedule. They'll hit the road again next week for three games in Swift Current (Feb. 1), Brandon (Feb. 3), and Regina (Feb. 4).

SUGAR KINGS JERSEY AUCTION

As of Noon today, fans can log onto www.hurricanesauction.com. and bid of the replica Lethbridge Sugar Kings jerseys. The Hurricanes will wear those jerseys for one game coming up this Friday night in honour of the Sugar Kings who played back in the 1960's and 70's. The Kings won the Alberta Junior League Championship in 1968-69.

  1. What would be interesting is to find out if Lanny Macdonald saved his Native Sons jersey? It would be cool to have a chance to bid on a Native Sons jersey with Macdonald's and other original Native Son's names on the back. Even if the jerseys were not game-worn jerseys, it would still be a cool idea.

Anyway, it's a nice way to honour Lanny and the rest of the Native Sons. I wonder if the club will put up a display of the old Lethbridge Arena?? They should have a little display table set up with some old memorabilia under glass. I'd love to see the old chicken wire arena!!
