Hurricanes Down Edmonton 5-2

LETHBRIDGE - Brady Ramsey scored three goals as the Hurricanes won back-to-back games for the first time this season, 5-2 over the Edmonton Oil Kings.

The Hurricanes came out hitting again for the second game in a row, trying to build on the physical play that helped them to a victory the night before versus Red Deer. The Hurricanes ended up opening the scoring in this game on a power play. Brady Ramsey poked home his 8th of the season, beat Tristian Jarry to give Lethbridge a 1-0 lead. 40 seconds later Edmonton would tie things up at 1-1. Curtis Lazar put the puck by a down-and-out Damien Ketlo. That evened the score after 20 minutes. Edmonton held the edge in shot 15-7. Defenceman Daniel Johnston left the game late in the period after he was hit from behind by Edmonton's Rhett Ranchinski. He did not return.

In the second, both teams continued to pound pucks at each other and the Hurricanes would eventually get the go-ahead marker. Cam Braes hammered a bullet off the crossbar and in to give Lethbridge a 2-1 lead. It was the Captain's 7th goal of the season. The Hurricanes had a real strong period, with 19 shots on the Edmonton goal. The shots were even at 26-26 through 40 minutes.

In third, the Hurricanes would take a two-goal lead when Graham Hood tipped the puck by Jarry for his 5th of the season. That gave Lethbridge a big 3-1 lead early in the period. The Oil Kings would begin a bit of a comeback near the mid-way point of the period. Josh Lazowski scored on the power play to cut the Hurricanes lead to 3-2 with about 9 minutes remaining in the period. Shortly after that, the Oil Kings would get a long 5-on-3 man advantage. The Canes managed to killed that off and right after, Brady Ramsey scored his second of the game and 9th of the season to give Lethbridge a 4-2 lead late in the period. The Hurricanes would ice the game with an empty-netter from Brady Ramsey, who scored his 3rd of the game and 10th of the season. He's first Hurricane to hit double-digits in goals this season. The Oil Kings out shot Lethbridge 37-33. Lethbridge finished the night 1/4 on the power and Edmonton 1/6. The Hurricanes improve to 5-18-0-1 on the season. A great game from start to finish for Lethbridge in this one and for the second night in a row, played a solid 60 minutes.

A big congratulations to Hurricanes Captain Cam Braes who played his 300th game in a Lethbridge Hurricanes uniform Saturday versus the Oil Kings. He was certainly a factor in the win against Edmonton.

NEXT UP

The Hurricanes will continue to get their fair-share of the Oil Kings in the coming week. The Canes will host Edmonton again on Wednesday night (Nov. 23) at the ENMAX Centre and then head to Edmonton for the first time this season on Saturday (Nov. 26). The Canes will play the Rebels in Red Deer on Friday.

Thanks,
Pat

  1. Wow. I'm SO happy for the team right now. They've been through such a terrible stretch that they really deserve some rewards for their hard work. Wasn't at the game, but from Pat's report, they were physical from the outset and set the tone early (again).

Good for Brady Ramsey!! He's been a real surprise. Good for him!

  2. I just have to say that Brody Sutter made a completely selfless move by giving Ramsay the puck for that empty net goal...What a wonderful act and sense of a team. Hats off to Sutter! Congrats Ramsay on your hat trick. Great game boys!

  3. One thing I noticed tonight that I hadn't the previous games I was at was just how many shots the Canes blocked tonight. They were putting their bodies on the line all night, especially on the PK.

What a great night to be at the Enmax Centre! Well deserved win.

  4. Foster is only now figuring out it is Sunday and not Wednesday. (Hood was a monster... again! YES!)

From one of the best officiating games the night before,.... to this amateur night with Lawrence and Thurston! What a great thing it is for a coach (Derek Laxdal, Edmonton) to be able to do some yelling and whining like a spoiled child at the refs to start the third period, and instead of getting a bench minor,.... getting the only (four) powerplays of the final period including two 5on3s! - Disgusting!

Fred was saying it would require "a miracle" for the Canes to make the playoffs. BS! This is the same lousy attitude and low expectations the coaches seem to have on road trips.

Expect more with relentless play, better discipline, and there is no reason why they can't win 15/20 to be in the hunt... unless hard work is considered "miraculous." Speed and relentless physical play trumps skill in this league. Like a fighter, every team has a plan until THEY GET HIT! ROLL FOUR LINES!! - Richie.

  6. Great win...I really like the pressure hockey they have played this weekend giving the opposition no space! Hope Johnston's injury is not too serious that was a bad hit from behind...Ramsey getting a hatty is exactly the secondary scoring they need! Hopefully this is a positive turning point...TD
