The Lethbridge Hurricanes have made their first two selections at the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft in Calgary.
With the Hurricanes first pick, 3rd overall, the team selected defenceman Ryan Pilon from Duck Lake, Saskatchewan. With the Hurricanes second pick, 5th overall they took forward Reid Duke from Calgary.
I spoke with Assistant G.M. and Director of Player Personnel Brad Robson shortly after the Hurricanes made their picks in the first round: "We're very happy! We had these two guys in our top four on our Bantam Draft list. In Ryan Pilon we get a big, strong defenceman with a lot of offensive upside to go along with his size. We're excited to have selected someone like him on our backend. As for Reid Duke, he's got lots of pure skill and offensive ability who's going to score a lot of goals down the road for the Lethbridge Hurricanes. We're excited here at the draft table".
The Calgary Hitmen selected forward Jake Virtanan first overall and Swift Current picked defenceman Brycen Martin with the second pick.
More to follow........
Thanks,
Pat

ReplyDeleteNo. I'm not in Calgary, but I am following things very closely with the Hurricanes from my desk. After talking with Brad Robson shortly after, I can tell you the Hurricanes are very pleased and excited with what's transpired in the opening round. Brad's comments have been posted on the blog.
