Hurricanes This Week

The Lethbridge Hurricanes enter this new week riding a six game losing streak.

The hockey club has picked up just two points in that span (an overtime loss and a shootout loss) and today are three points back of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and four points back of 7th spot. The Hurricanes will play the remainder of their games in February on home ice. They've spent an awful lot of time on the bus since the beginning of the new year, so it'll be nice to stick around home for a while. 7 of the Hurricanes next 9 games will be played at the ENMAX Centre, including 3 games in 4 nights this week.

On Wednesday, the Hurricanes host the Regina Pats. The two teams are tied with 45 points each in the standings. The Pats play in Kootenay on Tuesday. On Friday the much-improved Prince George Cougars will pay a visit to Lethbridge and on Saturday, the WHL's second best team, the Red Deer Rebels are in town. It's imperative that the Hurricanes pick up a few points over these three games. The Hurricanes are going to need to consistently grab points in the final quarter of the season if they want to make the post-season. These upcoming head-to-head battles over the next five or so weeks against Regina (1 game), Edmonton (4 games), Calgary (1 game) are very, very important. We've talked a lot about must-win games. Well, those match-ups are as close as you'll get to must-wins.

The Hurricanes are hoping to get back one their top gunners this week. Austin Fyten has missed the past three games with an upper-body infection. His return will certainly be a welcome addition for Lethbridge. Defenceman Tyler Kizuik could be back this week as well. He's been sidelined the last couple of weeks with a shoulder injury and Cason Machacek will be back on Wednesday, as he's now served his five game suspension.

HURRICANES THIS WEEK

Our 5th last show of this 2010-2011 WHL season airs tonight at 6:00 (MST) on CJOC. On the program, Hurricanes overage forward Mitch Maxwell will join us for a chat to talk about this year's team and the race for the playoffs. Fred and I will also be joined by Hurricanes Business Manager Jim Bradley to discuss a number of different things in the second part of the show and in the final segment we will speak with Rod Pedersen, the former radio voice of the Regina Pats and popular sports blogger. We'll talk with Rod about the Pats and set up Wednesday's big game between Lethbridge and Regina at the ENMAX Centre.

Thanks,
Pat
