Hurricanes @ Red Deer Rebels

The Lethbridge Hurricanes get back at it tonight as they travel to Red Deer to take on the Rebels.

The Rebels blanked the Canes 3-0 in Lethbridge last weekend as these two teams get set to play twice within the next four days. The Hurricanes battle for a playoff spot to somewhat of a hit this week with Prince Albert pulling off a couple of wins. The Hurricanes currently trail P.A. by six points for the final playoff position in the Eastern Conference. They have two games in hand on the Raiders, but most players and coaches will tell you, those games in hand don't mean anything unless you win them.

Lethbridge begins another very busy stretch going into the next few weeks. Tonight is the first of 6 games for the Hurricanes in the next 9 days. They play Red Deer twice, Edmonton three times, and Kamloops once all in the next week or so. The Canes' haven't played since last Saturday. It's been the first time since early January that the Hurricanes have had at least three practice days in a row.

There's no doubt the pressure is on in these final 15 games, especially with Prince Albert and Brandon winning lately. The Raiders are 5-5 in the past 10 and the Wheat Kings are 7 and 3 in their last 10. The Hurricanes are pretty much a healthy team as we get into the final four weeks of this 2010-2011 WHL season.

The Rebels have had the Hurricanes number this season. Lethbridge won the first meeting in a shootout in late November, since then though it's been all Red Deer. The Rebels have outscored the Hurricanes 18-2 in their last three meetings, including two shutouts courtesy of Darcy Kuemper, who's got the best goaltending numbers in the WHL.

Tonight's game is a 7:30 (MST) start from Red Deer. The pre-game show on CJOC at 7:00.

Thanks,
Pat

  2. Another loss tonight is a definite possibility considering they can't score against Red Deer.Combine this with wins by Brandon (host SC) and by PA (host MJ) will all but do it for the Canes. Preston's guarentee of a playoff team is fading fast. Soon it will be time to play the youngsters on this team a lot more to see who really wants to be back here next season especially Kuvaev.

  3. its make or break time for the canes they win one or two of these next six games their hopes of playoffs are probably done. They win three or four or five or all siz i say they gain anywhere from two-eight points on pa/brn/edm/sc. this is how i think they have to do it in the next six games my prediction is they need at least four wins to get within a couple points of a playoff spot or in one. They need to take one of two against Red Deer, take two of three against edmonton and beat kamloops. Time will for sure tell the story, but i think if they dont get to within four points of a playoff spot by this stretch their hopes are done.

  4. They have backed themselves up against a wall. I'd like some playoff hockey, but might have to settle for tonight's game at 7:30 p.m. between the bantam AAA Golden Hawks and the Red Deer Rebels White.
