Freddie's Fodder: A Look at the Winter Games Prospects

Five Lethbridge Hurricanes prospects (by my count) are participating at the Canada Winter Games this week in Halifax. The hockey event is for 15 year olds those that were selected in last years 2010 WHL Bantam Draft. Team Alberta is playing this afternoon in a semi-final game against Quebec. The other semi-final goes tonight between B.C. and Ontario. The medal games will be played tomorrow. Each team has played 5 or more games thus far. So far in the event, the following Hurricanes prospect
have put up these numbers:

Johnathan Merkley - Forward - 3rd Overall - Alberta - 2 Goals, 0 Assists.
Craig Leverton - Forward - 25th Overall - Saskatchewan - 1 Goal, 3 Assists.
Macoy Erkamps - Defense - 27th Overall - B.C. - 1 Goal, 0 Assists.
Branden Scheidl - Defense - 72nd Overall (Portland, traded last month to the Hurricanes) - Saskatchewan - 0 Goals, 1 Assist.
Remi Laurencelle - Forward - 157th Overall - Manitoba - 1 Goal, 0 Assists.

- 1 other local note Lethbridge Midget 'AAA' product Ryan Chynoweth who is also playing for Team Alberta has 1 Goal and 2 Assists so far in the event.

Leading Scorers

1. Evan Morrison - PEI - 6 Goals, 8 Assists, 14 Points.
2. Curtis Lazar - BC - 6 Goals, 4 Assists, 10 Points. (Picked 2nd overall by Edmonton in last years Bantam Draft.)
3. Nathan Mackinnon - Nova Scotia - 7 Goals, 2 Assists, 9 Points. (Lots of similarities at his age to Sidney Crosby)

  4. Preston needs to see what the Oil Kings want for young Mr Lazar. Maybe we can give up one of our first round 2011 picks for this kid. I think he and Merkley would get along very nicely next year!!
