Canes' Trade First Round Euro Pick

LETHBRIDGE - Hurricanes G.M. and Head Coach Rich Preston has announced that Lethbridge has acquired Regina’s 6th round pick in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft in exchange for the Canes first round pick (46th overall) in the 2010 CHL Import Draft. This was the pick originally acquired from the Portland Winterhawks in a trade last season. The Hurricanes next selection in the 2010 CHL Import Draft will be their second round (67th overall) pick and is expected to be made later this evening.

Thanks,
Pat

  1. A 6th round 2 years away! We get unproven players and a 6th rounder for the top D man in the WHL (who should have been traded months earlier when he had huge value). I just hope Rich did not learn too much from the flames. They have traded away the everything asset they have. So we went from having a high pick to having a pick that will not mature until 2015. Wow. Hope our one euro scout who lives in Juha's hometown finds another goalie so we have some euro content in the future. I try so hard not to be negative but when the league is fleecing us at every opportunity it gets old. Just to name the trades we have got taken for recently... Beach (fleeced twice with the same player, impressive), Yellowhorn, Versteeg, Sbisa just to name a few. I just hope the Ashton/Orfino trade works out and we do not deal those picks away for a bag of beans in the 2017 draft. I know these were not all Prestons trades but it shows a pattern of weak orgazational management. Please Canes fans, I am being serious with this question, name me a trade or two in the recent past where we came out on top.

    Frustrated in the Bridge.

PS is it too much to ask the Canes to bring in the Scorpions in to play the Enmax.

  2. Looks like we took a 6.03 190lb Russian forward for our second pick. I hope this gentleman decides to come. He sure would beef up the forward lines

  3. mestery for a 2nd rounder...(joel topping)gonna be a good dman in the comming years...reddington oslanski for beach...two good dman for a kid with a rep that would make it HARD to trade him to almost any planet much less team...but prestons drafting is where he shined, he did very well in this years draft not to mention the 1st,and 3 2nd round picks he aquired and managed to keep come draft day...........if a gm does well in the bantum drafts every year you will not have much to bitch in the future, for the simple reason you will not have to do much trading.....GIVE THE MAN SOME TIME .....

  5. Right on BOB!
Too many people are stuck in the past and are still spinning their wheels on old deals and deals that were not made. I could just hear the negativity had Preston not traded Sbisa or Beach or Ashton. The Hurricanes were not going to make the playoffs even with those three. As for Orfino,it looks like he is going to pack it in.
If I have learned anything about Preston and Robson, they are both methodical. The drafting this year will pay huge dividends down the road. There will be vets on this team that not be here due to the young talent coming up.

You are right Bob....give Preston time.
