Blackhawks Win Stanley Cup

The Chicago Blackhawks are the 2009-2010 Stanley Cup Champions, ending a drought that's lasted nearly 50 years.

This year's NHL champs have a distinctive Lethbridge Hurricanes flavour, something Canes' fans I'm sure are very proud of. Kris Versteeg, Brent Seabrook, and Tomas Kopecky all wore the Lethbridge jersey at one point during their WHL careers. Versteeg in particular, I think really brings this whole Stanley Cup thing even closer to the heart of Hurricanes fans. With Versteeg being from Lethbridge, it's a given that Lord Stanley's Cup will make an appearance in southern Alberta at some point over the course of the next few months. That in itself will most likely draw in fans from near and far! It's great to see these former Canes' having such an impact with the Blackhawks. All of them played a big role in helping Chicago win the Cup. I know Versteeg has been a big supporter of the Hurricanes Alumni golf tournament, which is scheduled for July 9th at Paradise Canyon. I don't know if he'll be there this year, but he has come in the past. I can bet if he does make an appaearance, Lethbridge hockey fans will surely turn out to see him!

Congratulations to the Hawks', but a big congrats to those former Hurricanes players who are now NHL Champions!

Thanks,
Pat
