Mitch Maxwell Suiting Up for Lethbridge Bulls

Hurricanes forward Mitch Maxwell is trading in his hockey stick for a baseball bat this summer.

The native of Magrath has signed on to play for the Lethbridge Bulls of the Western Major Baseball League. The Bulls held a media conference at the Sharkclub in Lethbridge on Thursday to announce that Maxwell would be playing with them this season.

Maxwell says he's excited for the opportunity. "Coming to the Hurricanes this year was a proud moment for me, growing up watching them play. On the other hand, I've watched the Bulls play my whole life too. I've played baseball for a long time it's kind of my other sport. I've been playing both sports since I was about three years old. When Kevin (Kvaume) came calling I wasn't too sure, but I've been able to find a way to fit in Bulls baseball around my off-season hockey workouts. I just couldn't pass up this opportunity."

Kevin Kvaume, the Bulls Manager and Owner says he's really happy to have Maxwell playing for the baseball club this year. "Mitch played for me in the past. He had a great year last year with the Lethbridge Elks. He's an athlete, a competitor and has that passion for both hockey and baseball. I just didn't want him to throw the baseball thing away just because he was working his way up the ranks with the Hurricanes. We've been talking about this for a while."

Maxwell and the Bulls begin their season at the end of May.

Thanks,
Pat
