Vancouver, BC—Vancouver Giants General Manager Scott Bonner today announced that the Western Hockey League club has hired Mike Dyck as a WHL scout. Dyck, a former assistant coach with the Giants, will coach Team Pacific at the Under 17 World Challenge in Timmins, Ontario, later this month.
Giants GM Scott Bonner says “It’s good to welcome Mike back to the Giants family, he was a part of our building process early on, and will now help me with trades, and work to help get us to where we want to be.”
Dyck coached the Lethbridge Hurricanes for 5 seasons and 268 games, and says “I am happy to be back with a first class organization, and to be working with a good group of people that I am very familiar with.”
Dyck will coach Nathan Burns, Zach Hodder and Giants prospect Aaron Hadley at the U17. He begins his duties with the Giants immediately.
Was that an implied knock on the Hurricane's organization by Dyck?
ReplyDeleteRJ.
Why would he not want to take a shot on his way out after the way he was treated. Sad to say but the Hurricanes are not a first class organization, not even close. We are the laughing stock of the league. Face facts Canes fans. Things have settled a little bit this season but you can't expect a wound that big to heal overnight. If this were the case we would have players wanting to play for us, not refusing to get on the bus. I really feel Mike got a bad deal last season and we lost one of the classiest people in the organization(slim pickens). I wish him all the best. Good thing this year is that the GM can't barge in between periods. God that man set us back a long way. At least I take solace that he works for the leaves (proper grammar is important). I just hope the GM listens to his advice.
ReplyDeleteWhether conscious or sub-, definitely a slam against the Canes organization. - Whatever.
ReplyDeleteHe may have been classy, but classy needs to learn to work with frumpy, no??
I think that Dyck has performed some good analysis of his strengths and weaknesses in his time away. I agree that he is probably better suited for scouting than he is for coaching-Now he won't have to use communication skills that he doesn't have while he eats popcorn and watches from the stands.
In spite of Michael's game plan, the Canes exceptional roster managed to attain WHL Champion runner-up; exposed in the final series 4-0 by a much better coached Spokane team.
If a player can skate around in circles with the puck in the corner for extended periods, and if a player can avoid approaching the net or taking shots at the goal, he will get A++ scouting marks from MD (I like our chances against the Giants in the years to come). - Richie.
