I had a chance today to speak with Hurricanes President Bryan McNaughton about the vacant G.M.'s position.
I asked him what the interest has been like since the board announced nearly two weeks ago that it was letting Roy Stasiuk go. "For the General Manager's position we've had 8 inquires. We are following up on all 8 inquiries." I also asked about the qualifications of those people who've expressed an interest. "There are some very highly qualified people there and we'll see how the process goes over the next 10 days and hopefully have an answer and recommendation to the board in about two weeks."
As expected, McNaughton wouldn't give any names. We do already know though that Rich Sutter and Brad Robson have expressed an interest in the job since they both told me that over the past few weeks. McNaughton did mention they'd like the new G.M. in place by the NHL draft.
Thanks,
Pat
