The Canes' have won 3 of their past 4 games heading into action at the Credit Union Centre. This game could also be a first round playoff preview as these two clubs could very well meet up in a best of 7 series in 2 weeks time. The Hurricanes are coming off a rather dominating performance versus Red Deer on Wednesday in Lethbridge and a 4-1 win in Regina last weekend. Six different Hurricanes scored in the 7-1 victory against the Rebels a few nights ago, lead by Carter Ashton who scored twice including his team leading 30th goal of the season for the Canes'.
With 5 games to go in the regular season, Lethbridge and Kootenay continue a sea-saw battle for playoff positioning. The Hurricanes and Ice will play a home-and-away series next weekend which will likely go a long way to determining which team finishes in front on the other in the Eastern Conference.
Lethbridge officially clinched a playoff berth last night, eventhough they didn't play. With Edmonton losing, mathematically the Oil Kings can not longer catch the Canes' who are 9 points ahead of them in the standings. Although this has been an up and down season for Lethbridge, it's been a few years since this team has made the playoffs in back-to-back seasons. Who knows, this Canes' team may turn some heads in the post-season. I would suspect the returning players from last year feel they have some unfinished business to take care of. Let's not forget either that the Hurricanes also have a lot more playoff experience going into the post-season this year than last season.
Before the Hurricanes focus on the post season, they still have two weekends of the regular season to take care of first. We do know the Canes' will make the playoffs, which team they'll face is still up for grabs.
Tonight's game in Saskatoon is a 6 o'clock start (Alberta Time). The pre-game show on CJOC at 5:30.
