Are people ...Probably a bit late to chime in here. Are people really feeling like the "vets" aren't buying into the current system? What exactly is the system? To have the D-men (and forwards for that matter) go high and hard off the glass at every opportunity to get the puck out of the zone. Only to have better run offensive attacks from the opponents defense and forwards bring it back into our zone?

Watch the defense. Watch how we "break out" of our zone. It is pathetic. I don't think our "vets" should bear all of the responsibility given they are all forwards and are still trying to forecheck and work to get into the offensive zone by simply chasing the dump in. Henry was traded because he wanted to carry the puck and create plays. The new "system" is to dump it out of the zone. It is a "system" I will give it that. It just doesn't work.

I do agree that we need size. Maxwell, McKechnie, Wong, Olynek, Ramsay cannot be expected to intimidate D twice their size. The successful teams have an intimidation factor no question. When you look at Axel he gives up the puck. Our D simply don't have it. Erkamps has decent size and does a decent job but he is not progressing as all had hoped. Pilon is ultra talented for sure but has absolutely no aggressiveness whatsoever.

I don't have all the answers I certainly know that. I do know that trades must be imminent because the level of frustration all the way around must be growing tremendously. I'm sure frustrated as a dedicated fan. The Old Coach who was stepping down met with him privately and presented him with three numbered envelopes. "Open these if you run up against a problem you don't think you can solve," he said.

Well, things went along pretty smoothly, but a few games in the team hit a losing skid and he was really catching a lot of heat. About at his wit's end, he remembered the envelopes. He went to his drawer and took out the first envelope. The message read, "Blame your predecessor."

The new Coach called a press conference and tactfully laid the blame at the feet of the previous Coach. Satisfied with his comments, the press -- and fans - responded positively, they won a couple games and the problem was soon behind him.

About a year later, the team was on a bad losing streak and struggling. Having learned from his previous experience, the Coach quickly opened the second envelope. The message read, "Reorganize." He furiously made a few trades and they again won a few games.

Near the end of the season the team lost a crucial game that would have put them in the playoffs. The Coach went to his office, closed the door and opened the third envelope.

The message said, "Prepare three envelopes."

Well we are at the blame the predecessor stage and starting the reorganization phase much earlier than I would have expected.
LthNhdsAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-853267891466093489.post-4274056273437131102013-10-11T01:06:41.401-06:002013-10-11T01:06:41.401-06:00this I totally agree with, if our 20 year old forw...this I totally agree with, if our 20 year old forwards are not Curtis valk material, then the team would benefit big time with a big solid 20year old dman to stabilize the back end.. a player like fenske or kanzig makes it REAL uncomfortable for forward to hang out in front of our net......there is absolutely no one on the canes that has that rugged nasty feel to them, , I can see why the new systems are not working well with this bunch, when 5'9 165lbs wong is one of the only pieces of sandpaper you have on the team you got a problem. by the 12th game if thing don't improve some of the 94 based forwards and one 93 forward should be on their way out.......bobnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-853267891466093489.post-383738341279387062013-10-10T18:03:41.016-06:002013-10-10T18:03:41.016-06:00I can't help but agree with Bob in that the ve...I can't help but agree with Bob in that the vets liked the no-structure style played under Preston over the last 3-4 seasons. Some of the vets either can't or won't adjust. Trouble is no matter where they may end up, most good coaches have structure and systems. The damage done over the last 4 years has now surfaced it's ugly head. I just hope Berehowsky and crew have the patience to see this through along with the fans.

Dump'n ChaseAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-853267891466093489.post-79202741128338887182013-10-10T17:04:31.494-06:002013-10-10T17:04:31.494-06:00The season can get away on you fast. They are not giving up either Fiddler or Fioretti. Check in with Regina about Luke Fenske. He is a real tough dude who will fight anyone and was the only plus d-man the Pats had last year on a bad team. A real tough veteran defence and goalie. Win 3-2 or 2-1 and start changing the culture. It may not be real pretty but the wins will start happening.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-853267891466093489.post-7425652042286629212013-10-10T14:49:30.002-06:002013-10-10T14:49:30.002-06:00Another terrible game. I am sorry but Russ, Sam,Brady and maybe Yak are not helping anyone by being here. Trade them or send them home unless they decide to play at 100% all the time. The only way this team has achance to win is out work every team. There is not enough skill to play at 50% and expect to win. I think we will miss the playoffs this year and probable next without some drastic changes in the roster or the attitude. I sure hope I am wrong. Good luck to Adam at least he will be in the playoffs. They shortened the bench in the third period> It looked like he went with only 7 forwards. Some of the forwards that dogged it in the first period did not get much ice time in the second or the third period!
(3) The refs missed a pretty healthy chop onto MacKechnie's wrist and he went off holding it. A brutal call on the roughing penalty to Duke. Whl refereeing needs some work.
(4) Did notice Caroline working on Yak early in the game hope he is okay.
(5) Boes did a good job last night. He at least kept the score presentable.
(6) Henry's trade I do not think is the last one to be made.
An ObserverAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
