Hurricanes Hire New Business Manager

The Lethbridge Hurricanes are pleased to announce the hiring of David Harris as the club’s new Vice-President of Business Operations.

Harris comes to the hockey club with over 15 years of experience working in many different areas including sales and marketing, program development, project management and communications.

“I am extremely excited about joining a premier organization as the Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club” stated Harris.  “The Board of Directors have a vision for the success of this franchise moving forward and I am proud to be part of it.  I’m looking forward to working with the business community within Lethbridge and meeting the great fans of the Hurricanes.”

Harris has a good understanding of the hockey fan and the game day experience. He has spent over 10 years as Director of Operations and Marketing in the Ontario Hockey League with both the Mississauga Ice Dogs and the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. Most recently Harris was with The Messier Project – Cascade Sports where he was responsible for all new business development, key national accounts and the National Hockey League.

Board Vice-President Brian Wichers commented “we went through the hiring process from the standpoint that it would be great to find someone that has the experience in junior hockey. Dave Harris had success as a Business Manager in the OHL where he’s taken a brand new hockey team and started from scratch. He understands what it takes to build a good business and marketing plan and fill the arena with fans. He comes with a wealth of knowledge which is what the Hurricanes need right now in our business department; he’s going to be a great addition.”

  3. Actually, the hiring process began after JB left. Apparently the hiring committee was inundated with a lot of applications. ANON 11:37pm, do I get a hint of sarcasm?

  5. I have read the linkedin profile and to me (unless I am missing something) it appears that he has a very sound background especially with junior hockey franchises.

  6. at least it's someone with experience in the industry and not a buddy or relative of a board member.

  7. Anon 4:14 It's about time they figured out that they can't be in the habit of hiring their friends. I hope the BD appreciates the staff and fans that stood by them through all that bull. I sure hope this one is the answer. Something tells me that the AGM is not going to be pretty.

  8. Word around the hockey world is that the Canes are treating their players, prospects and families very well and with great dignity. It is always nice to hear positive stories from players, parents etc. With Brad Robson's experience, Rich Preston growing every day as a coach and good hires like this, coupled with a beautiful expansion of the rink, Lethbridge looks to be in nice hands right now. The fans there deserve credit for standing by, now it looks like it will be better. Looks like a 38-42 win season thing year with Rimmer in nets. Good for you guys!

  12. Are we ahead of the curve or behind the curve?? Info from Drinnan Report

It wasn’t that long ago when it was awfully hard to purchase a season ticket to the Kelowna Rockets. But that isn’t the case these days. The Rockets have scheduled an open house for Saturday at Prospera Place and have let it be known that 400 season tickets are available.
“The tickets are a combination of ones that were let go this year,” Gavin Hamilton, the team’s vice-president of business development, told Kelowna radio station AM 1150. “We had a group that are retired now and are traveling more in the winter time so aren't around for the second half of the year, so that is where a bulk of those came from."
A year ago, the Rockets put 350 season tickets into circulation. That marked the first time season tickets had been available since before the team played host to the 2004 Memorial Cup.

Meanwhile, in Brandon, the Wheat Kings revealed that they have sold 1,969 season tickets; they had sold more than 2,200 at this time last year.
Last season, the Wheat Kings sold more than 2,900 season tickets; they averaged more than 4,100 fans for home games.
“I always make reference to really it’s Oct. 1 before you know for sure where you’re gong to end up with your season tickets,” Brandon owner and GM Kelly McCrimmon told a news conference, “but when we’re behind like we are, it’s a little bit concerning, and it could be a variety of things: Weather, people away, obviously July and August aren’t months where people are thinking about buying hockey tickets. It’s something that picks up a lot more in September, so again I think (the team is) not alarmed, but just a bit concerned that we need to get moving with those numbers.”
