Sorry this is a bit late being posted, but just trying to find some down time on my last few days of vacationing on beautiful Vancouver Island. Nonetheless, it appears today's announcement completes Head Coach and G.M. Rich Preston's staff as the hockey club now turns it's focus on training camp and the upcoming season.
Tuesday afternoon, Preston announced the hiring of Chris Chisamore and Richie Sutter. Chisamore was the Canes' goaltending coach last season and has been named the team's new Assistant Coach while Sutter has been brought on as an Assistant to the General Manager & Hockey Operations. Matt Kabayama, the Hurricanes Assistant Coach the past few seasons was promoted to Associate Coach by Preston.
Preston said, "the promotion of both Matt and Chris is a natural progression as both of them - especially Matt; have experience working with our players and our prospects. With four or five solid goaltending prospects this season, having an assistant coach with Chris’ specialized background on-hand full time will be invaluable to our program."
As for bringing on Rich Sutter, Preston stated, "I have known Rich for many, many years and I look forward to working with him. He is a quality individual whose experience and hockey knowledge will be a great asset to the Hurricanes organization. We are very fortunate and proud to have all three of these quality individuals on our staff."
So I guess there you have it. After all this time, it finally looks like this team can move forward and focus on the actual game itself. Preston has the people he wants in place and it appears those people including Preston have a very good knowledge of the game. As many know, Richie Sutter was vying for the G.M. job right from the get go and he's had many supporters along the way. Perhaps hiring him on is a smart move by Preston, who's known Sutter for years. This, I'm sure should somewhat appease the Sutter supporters who've wanted him part of this team since Roy Stasiuk was let go way back in early May. Hopefully, now the focus will turn to the players and getting this team ready for camp in just a few weeks and the season itself in just over a month.
Thanks,
Pat

Preston to Announce Coaching Staff
Lethbridge Hurricanes G.M. Rich Preston will announce the rest of his coaching staff on Wednesday.
It's expected he'll bring on another assistant to complement himself and Matt Kabayama on the bench this coming season. A source has also told me that Rich Sutter will be brought on with the hockey club in some capacity. I don't know what his title will be or what his responsibilities will be, but Sutter will be in the Canes' fold. I'll post the details here tomorrow when I get them. As I'm on vacation for the next few days, I'll try and update this blog with any Hurricanes happenings as I can get to a computer to do so.
It's hard to believe that hockey season is fast approaching and training camp literally only a couple of weeks away. The Hurricanes will also hold their Annual General Meeting later this month and after that it'll be hockey time!
Thanks and have a great summer day!
